San Jose was founded on November 29, 1777 as El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe. Became the first city of the Spanish colony of California. July 11, 1846 was captured by Captain Thomas Fallon, and three days later, after the California accession to the United States, the American flag hangs over the city. In 1850, San Jose became the first incorporated city in California, becoming its capital until 1851.
