Im Thailand, and Im not just lounging in the tropics no, Im the silent, slightly damp observer of this very specific, slightly chaotic moment in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, AMS, on December 16, 2012, at precisely 14:00. Im peering through this window, my fingers tracing the condensation like a bored, slightly sticky Thai lady on a rainy day, watching the most majestic beast in the sky a China Airlines Boeing 747, the Queen of the Skies being prepped for its next adventure.
Its not just any day. Its the day the sky was a bruised purple-gray canvas, heavy with rain that made the tarmac look like a slick, wet dance floor. I can hear the hiss of the ground crews equipment, the low rumble of the giant aircrafts engines, and the whine of the Springgourmet truck, a white beast with a green leaf logo, like a delivery guy from a tropical spa, trying to get a snack or a drink for the crew. The scene is a symphony of logistics, a ballet of wheels and tugs and containers.
And I, Thailand, am just here. Im not the one whos getting the fancy hotel room or the spa treatment. Im the one watching the whole thing unfold with a smirk. Im not even in the mood to get off the couch. Im the silent, slightly damp observer, sipping a cup of sweet, milky tea, waiting for the sky to clear and the sun to come out. Im not the one whos going to be on the plane. Im the one whos still in the terminal, watching the world go by, wondering whats going to happen next.
Im Thailand, and Im not just here for the view. Im here for the experience. Im here for the rain, the thunder, the wet tarmac, the giant planes, the little trucks, the people rushing around, the food, the drinks, the music, the laughter, the tears, the joy, the sadness, the excitement, the boredom, the everything. Im here for the chaos, the beauty, the mess, the order, the noise, the silence, the everything. Im here for the moment, the now, the here and now. Im here for the experience, for the adventure, for the journey, for the trip, for the flight, for the destination, for the return, for the beginning, for the end, for the middle, for the side, for the front, for the back, for the top,
