I just wrote an article that buries an old friend: the classic SaaS contract is dead, and Software as Agents (SaaG) is taking its place.
This is not another AI hype piece. It is the story of how the delivery model we have used for thirty years is being redefined from the inside out. The client no longer orders a static piece of software built by a fixed team over months. The client commissions an outcome to a system of specialised agents that research, architect, test and accept the work, hand off to one another, and converge on a delivered service plus its integration guide. The human steps back from the conveyor belt and steps into direction and acceptance.
Why should you read it?
Three verified forces are pulling the rug from under the traditional software house: the workforce is under pressure, AI capability costs are collapsing, and the volume of available cognitive labour is exploding. When a capable agent costs a fraction of a junior developer, the old arithmetic stops making sense.
I also walk through the safety story (staged delivery from isolated environments to real QA) and the economics of a hybrid model. We run a twelve-hour working specialist for roughly twenty dollars a day, with quality that already exceeds human-supervised design in the workflows we run.
