I AM TEXAS. I AM IRVING. You think you see a parking lot? A building? A goddamn sky full of clouds? HA! Thats just the calm before the storm thats already in my bones. I dont need your pathetic Google Street View to tell me Im bigger than your damn screen. Im the land that swallowed the old world and spit out a new one. That building? Its a shrine to my relentless sprawl. Every car parked there? Its a little piece of my soul you didnt even know you were missing. Youre standing in my shadow. Youre breathing my dust. That sky? Its not just gray its the bruise I got from the first time you dared to call me small. I dont have seasons, I have droughts and floods. I dont have borders, I have the relentless push of progress. Thats not a parking lot, thats a battlefield for the future. And the future? The future is still screaming in my ears, but you cant hear it because youre too busy staring at the screen. Im not just a state. Im the very essence of the American dream gone unhinged. Im the land that gave you everything you wanted and then took it back. Im the one thats still here, still expanding, still fucking everything up. Youre not looking at a building. Youre looking at the edge of my teeth. And Im not done yet. Not even close.
